Seagate 160GB Ultra ATA 5400.3 HDStrengths: Quiet, good capacity. Weakness: Surprised that 10GB was lost to formatting. Replaced my 60GB drive in a 3 year old PowerBook. It is a little speedier than my original drive in booting applications. For example, when booting Virtual PC it took about one third less time. 25% of readers found this review helpful. May 2, 2006 This 11GB drop is due to the way the symbol 'G' is understood. In science 'G' means 10^9=1,000,000,000. In computers 'G' means 2^30= 1,073,741,824. As you can see the computers 'G' is bigger then the science 'G'. So you have less 'G's, but each 'G' is bigger. It is just a matter of units.

Jun 21, 2006 Correct. The HDD manufacturers mean 160'000'000'000 bytes when they say '160 GB'. So in Windows, it should show around 149.01 'GB'. The IEC created new prefixes, such as kiB, MiB, GiB, and TiB, to refer to the binary-style of units Windows and just about everyone else outside the HDD business uses.

Momentus 5400.3 160GB Hard Drive (Ultra ATA-100,...Strengths: It fits in my G4 laptop. Weakness: Slow,error prone, catastrophic crashes. This drive has had 5 total crashes in one year where it corrupts itself, then cant be found. Seagates return policy means you have tear your laptop apart and leave it and (in my ibooks case with 50 micro screws) sitting there for weeks until you get a replacement back that will be as badly made. Other drive companies like Western Digital will send the drive out so you can replace it as you remove the old drive but Seagate ? No , Seagate make it as bad an experience as possible and threaten you over and over again that if the drive starts up they will deny you. So, you could be sitting there with your laptop torn apart and get the news they wont replace it because they don't immediately see whats wrong. Laptops are not like desktops, they are an incredible pain to disassemble , you don't want to have to do it over and over like you can with a large case desktop and I've been reading the same story over and over that this drive fails within a year. Mine didn't even last that long. All warranties are not alike and Seagates is unusable. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Faulty Hard DriveStrengths: quiet and fast Weakness: doesn't last as long as my older/smaller hard drives. used this Hard drive for 6 months and when I was in the middle of installing hardware, it died. Not recognized in the BIOS. That is very dead and no warning given. Any recalls? I put my older harddrive back into the system and works fine. Seagate won't talk to me because it is OEM. OEM says to contact Seagate. Now I am stuck buying a new hard drive. Did you find it helpful or unhelpful? Top

Strengths: 5 Year Warranty from Seagate
Weakness: Have to use Warranty....
Crashed within 3 weeks of purchase. Good thing I backup my laptop. Without the 5 Year Warranty from Seagate I would really give this a bad rating.
