Very hot. Literally. Maybe it's burnin' rubber.

Strengths: SPEED. 16mb buffer, 10K rpms. SATA. Quality. Window is neat. I have this and the ADFD version in Raid0 and they work great but...

Weakness: COST. Not SATA2. Runs VERY hot, about 50-55C. Kinda loud too, recommend rubber seating for sound absorbtion.

For some reason these other two think their review is better. Show me some love?

Here's mine.

If you can't see the clear window inside of your computer I'd recommened getting the 1500ADFD without the clear cover instead. Save yourself $50.
Raptors are fast, but expensive...If you're on a budget I'd take a look at WD's 16mb cache 7200rpm Caviars. I have them in my SLI system and they work great. I dropped two 150 gig raptors into my X-Qpack for lan parties. Woot!
You should be able to get TWO 7200rpm HD's in a raid-0 setup for considerably less. That's kinda close to the same performance and twice the storage for half the cost of one of these puppies. Of course if you want extra assurance that you won't lose your data in the rare event that one of your drives fail, you may want to consider mirroring as well, which would take 4 drives, 2 for use and 2 for backup.
As Paris Hilton, or any of you silly Californians (sorry I'm from the east/midwest =P )would say, "That's hot." That can be taken two ways, it's for sure a kick-butt, "hot" piece of hardware. It's speedy. But it's also hot. I mean HOT. Make sure you have very good ventilation and a hard drive cooler wouldn't hurt either.
That concludes my review. Just a quick note if you're trying to set up raid and are running 64 bit, you may need to hit F10 to set up your raid array, and then F6 as you're entering windows setup to add 64 bit drivers from a floppy. You can probably get those off the CD that came with your motherboard or from the motherboard manufacturer's website. Have fun gaming all.

Who was the silly person who got on all the comps in the college lab and gave me thumbs down on my review? LOL I included EVERYTHING I could think of that you might want to know! Do your own research!

- Not for storage, but thanks for the extra gbs...

Strengths: Everything you found in the old raptor and more.

Weakness: Costly, of course. (Same $$/gbs as Raptor, but 150gb instead of 74)

This HD is built for those people who are obsessed with performance, but need more than 74gb. That's all it's for. If you think you need 300gb on a 10krpm performance RAID set-up, then you're missing the point.

With a transfer-rate of over 1gb/sec, this beast kicks the pants off pretty much everything else. RAIDed or not, SATA2 or not.

On the other hand, I'm only giving it 3 stars for pointlessness. Why do you need more than 74gb if you're only using this for your OS and a few games? IMHO you're better off grabbing 2 regular raptors in RAID 0 and a third storage drive.

I'm not sure you know what you're talking about...this drive is considerably faster than the 74gb raptor...do your research.

"With a transfer-rate of over 1gb/sec, this beast kicks the pants off pretty much everything else. RAIDed or not, SATA2 or not." Learn to read, and from now on don't waste my time with BS posts.

If you were really that concerned with speed performance you would be using SCSI drives. Like I said kid, do your research.

My response was to what you left on my original, which was the first post for this hard drive on pricegrabber. I thought it was rude and not really relevant to what I'd posted...my point was that if you want speed, you can rival this drive with a dual 7200rpm raid-0 setup, AND get more a lot more storage for your buck. Check Tomshardware's raptor comparison benchmarks located here...

I'm not sure exactly why some adolescents believe that posting underthem equates to an attack on the size of their genitalia or something. But, since now it's sort of fun....

"My response was to what you left on my original"

I left nothing on your original. I added a User Review. Sorry, the world doesn't revolve around you.

"...which was the first post for this hard drive on pricegrabber"

You want a cookie?

"If you were really that concerned with speed performance you would be using SCSI drives"

Congratulations, you've learned the basics of using search filters on pricegrabber.
"Ooo!> 15,000! *click!* That'll show em!"
...
Yes, SCSI drives are faster (along with being a bit more pricey and also a bit more of a pain to set up and troubleshoot). They used to be the benchmark, now they are just a little bit more bang for a lot more buck (and trouble). I for one don't bother with them. And nowadays I don't have to.

"my point was that if you want speed, you can rival this drive with a dual 7200rpm raid-0 setup"

Mine too! ^_^ "IMHO you're better off grabbing 2 regular raptors in RAID 0 "
Still haven't gotten that reading thing down yet, have you. Keep it up, practice makes perfect.

"AND get more a lot more storage for your buck."

Remember when I said, "If you think you need 300gb on a 10krpm performance RAID set-up, then you're missing the point."

Guess what.

Well kid...since you felt the desire to continue this quarrel, I'd like to point out that I now own one of each of the 150gig raptors in a dual raid setup, and it is improved performance. FYI I can barely see the tiny needle move in normal light without my blacklights on. However my other new system is running dual 7200rpm 8mb WD caviars, and Oblivion games load in about 6 seconds. :-) So as I said before, unless your system can keep up, there's really no point in wasting the cash. You will barely see the need for raptors this fast unless you like to be the first one into a game of Doom3. Both of my 64 bit systems now trump yours. Like I said before newbie, eat your egg.

Very satisfying performance

Strengths: As fast as everyone says they are

Weakness: Only the price

I have to agree that the window on the shell is pretty pointless; I've never seen anyone mod their case so that the tops of their drives could be seen. You'd do better to save the $50 and buy the standard Raptor 150. But there's no denying the performance. I put two in a RAID0 array, and although written specs may suggest that won't make much difference compared to just one of these, by itself, I find the performance notably better. It's amazing how much faster these are, even when compared to my old setup (four Raptor 37s in a RAID0 array).

The best out there!!

Strengths: This excellent hard drive does it all. The Raptor does is it all and does it well!

Weakness: None to note at this time.

I have two of these sexy drives in raid -0. I love them!! They are the best built drives on the market not to mention their speed. I plan on getting six more as soon as a week from now. Save for them you will not be disappointed.

A fast drive

Strengths: Fast

Weakness: Loud

This hard drive is fast and transmits data at a high rate. Windows loads very fast. I like the low access times compared to other drives. The only drawback is its loud noise.

Raptor X, the enthusiast\\\\\\\'s drive.

Strengths: Fast, no problems running two of these in Raid 0, looks tight in the right cases

Weakness: Expensive for the amount of space, Louder than most other sata hard drives.

Raid 0 with these makes everything run very snappy. I would recommend them to enthusiasts and those seeking the best. There are a few cases out there that show these off like my Thermaltake does. There was still a little modding involved to get the window to be seen. Vibration dampening was a nice touch for these hard drives.
