GeForce 8600GT

Strengths: Direct X10 compliant, only need 350W power supply, easy to keep cool, and plenty of horsepower for intermediate user.

Weakness: I have no complaints......

I reviewed various cards for some time and was looking to prepare my system for Vista and Direct x10.Here it is....this card is economical and packs a phemominal punch!!I was able to upgrade without changing my power supply and I'm so pleased with the performance. It has 256mb DDR3 that works with this chipsets new architechture,620MHz/800MHz on the factory overclock, with more horsepower under the hood!DOOM3 runs smooth as silk for me....XFX did a KILLER JOB!!!!!!Don't just take my word for it...TIME to ANTE UP!!!!!!

Nice card

Strengths: Easy installation. Very low power consumption (30-40watts), compatible with my 300 watt (dell) power supply. Easily overclockable - comes w/ Nvidia's ntune program.

Weakness: 128 bit bottleneck. You MUST cancel all previous video drivers or you get lots of interference.

Vista score of 5.9 and 5.6 graphics score. Loads all games, old and new with ease. I sometimes get thin horizontal lines across my 22inch screen that are only noticeable with all white backgrounds, not sure what thats about. Again, works with my wimpy power supply (300watt) so I'm very happy with it. DX 10 compatible. Obviously not an 8800, but you can overclock this close ot an 8600 GTS.

Great card for limited psu

Strengths: support DX10, works good with 350W PSU, low price.

Weakness: NOT include an HDTV dongle.

I have a HP Media Center M8120N, with Geforce 7350LE 128M video card and 350W PSU. I changed to this XFX 8600GT. It works very good with my 350W PSU. I play NSF Most Wanted and Company of Hero, the card works great. Many people who bought HP Media Center want to upgrade the video card. If you donot want to change the power supply, this XFX 8600GT is a good choice with great performance and low price.

Excellent mid-level video card

Strengths: Built for Vista (DirectX 10), 620 MHz Core, SLI Ready, good price point

Weakness: Not the beefest card for hard core games.

I just upgraded from a GeForce 6600 GT AGP card and I really notice the difference. I don't do a lot of hard core gaming but this card handles World of Warcraft and other lighter 3D games with everything turned on.
I was able to purchase the card from Buy.com for $140 with a $20 rebate. $120 for this card is very good.
The card has two DVI outputs and is supporting my two 20" Dell LCDs without a problem.
I am using Vista and on the Windows Experience Index, I get a Graphics subscore of 5.9 and a Gaming graphics subscore of 5.6. You can't get much better than that for a midlevel card at this price.
The card is reportably overclockable but I have not tried that yet. All in all a very good card if you are not a hard core gamer that needs the best.

Excellent Graphics Card For the Budget Gamer

Strengths: It has 620 Mhz Core clock and can run all direct X 9 games perfectly ( to the highest settings), including Halo, Flight Simulator and even Counter Strike. It has been flawless.

Weakness: The card has no flaws yet, everything about it is worth buying in my book.

Very good product, hope you will enjoy it too! I would think about getting this for any gamer you may know. They will love you for this card! It's excellent!

Great card

Strengths: Fast GPU. Nice price. 2DVI port.

Weakness: Nothing that I can think of. Didn't have video out other than svideo. But I can live with that.

This is definitely for people who wants nice graphics, but not a hardcore games who needs flawless 3d imagery. Installation and maintenance is easy. Haven't tried overclock though. Nvidia is a great video card company. and XFX has lifetime warranty too, (I think). Highly recommend.

Very nice card for a very nice price

Strengths: Excellent performance for the $$$$, performs as advertised, Dual DVI output, SLI ready

Weakness: If you're buying this card, none. It's only weakness is that it isn't a higher end card that costs over $500

I got this with a rebate, so the price was even better. This card does what it says it will do, and then some. The updated drivers and nZone interface let you overclock if you want, but I have no need to. I'm using the card on a MediaCenter PC and my video performance has improved substantially. I run six live video feeds at one time through some home surveillance software and it doesn't even hiccup. Prior to installing the card I was getting random drops and terrible frame rates. As a side note, I can also play games I couldn't run before (BF2142 and COH). They run great.

The card you NEED

Strengths: Only uses one slot, low power consumption, boosts ALL games, directx10 compatible!

Weakness: None I've found!! :)

When I was pondering on a card I was down to this one and another one. WOW?! After dropping this one into my machine I can clearly see why I went with this one. This one is perfect for the person who dosen't have all the money in the world to drop on a graphics card. There's always gonna be something new out there and yes black friday is around the corner but I bet this will still be cheaper and better than most if not all the graphics card that day! I play call of duty 2 on max settings w/ 4x AA and it just chews it up! If you're looking for a card, this is it!

XFX GeForce 8600GT Video Card

Strengths: Dual DVI, DirectX10 support, SLI ready, HDTV ready.

Weakness: None

The XFX GeForce 8600GT scored very well in the reviews that I've read. I'm not a gamer, nor a video card expert, but for the speed rating and capabilities, this midrange card is an excellent value.

Great Value

Strengths: Fast, DirectX 10 compatible

Weakness: Small memory

Very fast for a sub-$150 card. Runs CNC3, Jade Empire, Rise of Nations all above 30 fps with everything on, including anti-aliasing. DirectX 10 compatibility means you won't have to buy a new card for Vista. Get the nVidia reference drivers for best performance. Small memory size - 256MB - would be the only complaint.

Good Budget Card

Strengths: Price, Performance

Weakness: Minor "pickinesses": No D-Sub(VGA) out, distance between the two DVI outs is not wide enough for two adapters; no HDMI out; lack of HDCP.

Good performance card at a good budget price. In spite of the price, the performance is actually really good and plays BF2, COH, COD2 all fine. Being used for an HTPC, so it is a good crossover card to be able to game/play at the same time.

NVIDIA PureVideo HD allows HD video decoding, which for HTPC setups, is nice as it allows the processor to take a bit of a vacation, in that the card will decrease the cpu usage and decode on the card itself.

Main annoyance is the lack of an HDMI output, but this is more of a "what you pay for is what you get" type of drawback.

Would recommend again.

Nice 8600 card

Strengths: Good card for a good price.

Weakness: It only comes with one adapter and one s-video cable. No HDCP support. Now, after using it for a few months I wish I had something silent. My other fans are quiet now, but this one is loud.

The card runs great and plays all my games. I'm not a huge gamer, but I enjoy playing games without stutters. The best part is the warranty, which basically covers you from almost any problem you could have, and it can be transfered to the next owner when you upgrade later!

Good Card but I got some problems

Strengths: Cheap and powerful video card for gaming

Weakness: It crashes sometimes in Silkroad Online

I am playing Silkroad Online and I bought this card to improve the graphic . It keep getting crashes in the game without a notice or error . The game just disappear sometimes . I tried Counter Strike Source and it works perfectly . I don't know where the problem is . I think I will return and buy new card .

Relatively high-end card for non-high-end price

Strengths: Powerful graphics processing, all power needs drawn from PCI Express slot

Weakness: None so far

A friend needed a graphics card to play some of his more recent games. It ran F.E.A.R. with ramped-up settings pretty well (there were a few times it slowed down), so for his purposes, it was more than enough. I was taken a bit by surprise that there was no connection required directly to the power supply, unlike my own graphics card.

Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

The GeForce 8600 GT is a mid-range model in Nvidias 8 series of consumer desktop graphics cards. Its specifications should enable it to handle less demanding games and perform adequately on lower settings in more demanding graphics applications released in 2009. It features 256 MB of GDDR3 memory, SLI-readiness allowing dual GPU setups, and GigaThread technology, which aims to increase processing...
