Very good value for money

Strengths: Quiet, good response time, generous cache memory.

Weakness: None

Drive is very quiet and runs fairly cool for a drive this size. Drive has excellent response. I had been using the drive for video editing purposes and so far the performance has been exceptional. Also, 5 year warranty is a definite ++.

Great Storage Space for the Money

Strengths: Large drive size, enabling storage of almost anything without limitation.

Weakness: ATA-100 instead of SATA-150. Given that the drive is used sparingly and for backup purposes only, any speed difference is basically negligible.

I bought this drive in combination with an external drive enclosure to create a large, portable backup drive. So far the drive has worked exactly as expected. I am using the drive to backup files from my desktop and a notebook, which has been a effortless process. I would recommend this drive to anyone needing a large storage space, but can live without the speed difference between ATA-100 and SATA-150 (the same drive is available in a SATA version, but without the rebate I received on the ATA-100 version it is much more expensive).

A single drive can't even transfer at 100 Mbits/sec even if it's a 10,000 RPM Raptor SATA. Unless you are mounting the drive in a multi-drive RAID 1 striped set, the Ultra PATA 100 interface will never be the bottleneck. Even at 133GB per platter, spinning at 7200 RPM, the head doesn't even fly over 100 Mbits of data in a second, so there is no way the throughput could max out the interface.
<p>
Even a pair of striped 10K RPM SATA Raptors on one of the fastest RAID 1 interfaces available only reaches 140 Mbits/sec under ideal conditions with large unfragmented files. Usually a pair of Raptors would average about 105 Mbits/sec (less than 55 Mbits/sec per drive) and that's spinning at 10K, not 7200 RPM.

Easy to setup, fast drive

Strengths: Good size with good speed and a great price with $50 in rebates.

Weakness: None yet.

Easy to install, even though I had to do it manually. Seems to be quite fast, I am using it for video editing and picture storage. No problems thus far. Would recommend it to anyone.

High Quality High Storage Good Price

Strengths: Great for casual use of large files/lots of information.

Weakness: As it is a cheaper drive, the intimate technical specs could be better, however for everyday casual use this is an very good drive.

As it is, I got this drive for $85 for 250Gb. At current prices, this is a near steal. The drive functions well for casual movie playing and songs. I guess the only thing to worry about is whether or not you can sit and listen/watch for that long. Seagate is a very reputable hard drive manufacturer.

good price and performance to buy it

Strengths: fast...and quiet

Weakness: none

The performance is very good and have a good price after rebate. Besides, it has the largest capacities 133 GB per disk. Therefore, it can compete with Hitachi T7K250.
It is really a smart choice.

Best hard drive

Seagate always has the best hard drive. They always have 5 year manufacture warranty that means they are very confidence with their stuff. 250GB is very nice to put in many movie, music, game, mp3 everything I want. Price is nice too.

Seagate 250 GB Hard Drive

Strengths: Very easy installation.

Weakness: Performance: none that I have experienced.

Great Hard Drive. Very simple installation. Very easy to load software. While loading software it is almost completely silent. Although this was a great deal because it is an OEM Hard Drive it did not come with any cables nor instructions so you really have to be careful that you install everything properly. Overall, though, great price and great value.

Not Bad!

Strengths: 250GB Hard Drive for only $80!

Weakness: None so far.

I usually buy hard drives from Western Digital or Hitachi lately and have never had an issues with any of them. But when I saw a 250GB hard drive for only $80 after rebate, I couldn't pass it up. I've never had any issues with Seagates products before. I am using this hard drive as a hard drive to backup to and have so far not had any issues with this drive. It's fast and has plenty of room. I don't see how you can go wrong with this drive!

Quiet Hard Drive, Fast, Quiet, and Only a Small...

Strengths: Fast 7200RPM, ATA100, QUIET

Weakness: A small pricing premium

Get a Western Digital or a Maxtor, you'll really hear the difference. I've had 4 7200RPM hard drives before, but this one is just amazing in terms of speed and quietness. It does have a slight premium, but you pay for what you get. On top of that the 3 year warranty is so much better than the others ones that last only 1 year.
