Yeah, mine failed too.

Strengths: Capacity

Weakness: Reliability

Two months ago, the Seagate Momentus 160gb drive died in my Thinkpad T60. Thinking Seagate was the culprit, I replaced it with a Travelstar 160gb drive. Last week, the Travelstar died. I'm getting tired of replacing hard drives every two months, so I too will back off to a 120 gb drive for now. Let them figure out the new technology and get the bugs out before I give them another shot.

Travelstar 5K160 160GB Hard Drive (Ultra ATA-100,...

Strengths: Very quiet, fast, reliable and the price was GREAT.

Weakness: None so far.

This is a pretty decent hard drive for the price. It is comparable to the other 160GB notebook drives out there. I am currently using the drive to store a clone of my main drive. I don't think anyone can go wrong buying the Hitachi drive. I liked the drive so much that I purchased 2 additional drives and 2 cases to use as external drives for my laptop.

Hitachi notebook drive Travelstar 5K160

Strengths: capacity, power consumption, speed, low noise.

Weakness: none so far

I got this notebook drive about 3 months ago to replace my standard 60GB 7200rpm thinkpad T41 drive and this drive is more than x2 bigger (160GB), seems to use less power and even with its 5200rpm rotation, it does not seem slower that my original drive.

Big problem

Strengths: Capacity

Weakness: Reliability

I have had this drive 4 months and had the same proble the reviewer of the ST916082 reports, twice now. All of a sudden the hard drive won't reboot. It hangs up immediately after the POST> recover requires formatting and reinstalling data. I've done it twice now and I'm getting tired of wait as 100+ GB of data gets transferred from the disk to a backup, then format the drive, then transfer the...

Purchased this drive in April, 2007 it was very easy...

Strengths: Quiet,fast,dependable, affordable

Weakness: None so far exceeds my current needs.

I bought this hard drive to replace my 40gb Travelstar hard drive in my winbook notebook. The installation was simple and painless. The drive is very quiet and has no problem keeping up with the the demand for data when stressed. If i had another notebook that requires upgrading I would definitely purchase this drive again.
